40000 applied for 3500 PG courses in Kashmir University
Srinagar, Jan 30 : Twelve students have applied for every seat in the postgraduation course in the Kashmir University (KU) where the authorities have been facing challenges in terms of enrollment.
We receive nearly 40,000 applications from various aspirants for seeking admission at KU for PG courses," Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad said.
He said the university has an intake capacity for only around 3,500 students in different PG departments.
Prof Talat added that every year around 2.5 lakh people appear for exams, held by KU at graduate and PG level.
This year KU has conducted more than 386 examinations which puts a huge pressure on the entire machinery and limited workforce available with the university.
Maintaining that there was a pressing need for large scale expansion of the varsity in order to address these issues of infrastructure and dearth of manpower, Prof Talat said," Despite these difficulties we have been able to perform better than the previous years and the number of students who qualified through NET, SET and JRF has jumped to 450 now, as against 200 in 2010."
