Tourist potential of Chamarajanagara district ignored
Mysore, Oct 25: Ideal spots like dense forests, spectacular waterfalls, rich folklore and tribal culture, the Chamarajanagara district has it all to attract tourists, but the sad tale continue with situation being otherwise.
Tourism department sources told UNI that lakhs of tourists, who visit to the state’s favourite tourists destination of city of palaces Mysore, do not bother to travel another 60 odd km to Chamarajanagara district due to lack of proper information and tourism publicity by the government.
The district has one national park, Bandipur, two sanctuaries - Biligiri Rangana temple and Cauvery - and three piligrim centres- Male Mahadeswara hills, Himavad Gopalaswamy hills and Biligiriranga hills.
But this region remains far from emerging as one of the centres of tourist attraction. Though the district has been carved out of Mysore district more than a decade ago, the poor tourist inflow has already taken its toll on the tourism business in the district, which was reporting low profits.
The business men and other stakeholders in the district felt that urgent measures were needed to promote the tourism industry. The lack of industrial infrastructure and facilities and jobs would have serious consequences for one of the most backward districts in the state, they added.
''The small counties like Malyasia, Hong Kong, Maldives and Singapore have been earning more than 60 per cent of their revenue through tourism with only a few tourist sports and yet they exploit these spots in a big way, however, our governments have to learn a lot from them,'' Mr Jayashankar, a business man said.
Apart from the well-known places such as M M Hills, B R Hills, Bandipurnational Park Hogenakal falls, Gaganachukki and Barachukki water falls, places such as Bale Mantappa in Yelandur town and the Himavad Gopalaswamy Hills near Gundlupet town, which was covered in mist throughout the year, could be popularised.
