Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda on Friday reviewed the progress of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi, focusing on patient care, specialised services and infrastructure development.

Addressing the review meeting, Nadda emphasised the importance of drawing on the expertise and best practices of leading institutions when planning major healthcare infrastructure projects.

He also called for stronger implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) at RML Hospital, including ABDM compliance and wider adoption of e-prescriptions and other digital health services to improve patient care and service delivery.

The Minister also stressed the need to prioritise the mental well-being of students and faculty, highlighting the impact of stress on academic and professional life, said a statement.

He called for supportive interpersonal relationships, open communication and sustained mental health support.

RML Hospital regularly conducts mental health screenings for students and health check-ups for faculty members. Furthermore, the Minister encouraged the implementation of Project SARATHI at the institution and deemed it an important step.

What the report makes clear: The report sets out what the Health Minister reviewed at RML Hospital, including patient load figures, digital health goals and staff mental-health support.

Still open: The report does not yet say what specific new infrastructure or funding commitments, if any, followed from the review.

Another way to look at it: Digital tools like e-prescriptions can speed up care, but they also depend on staff training and reliable systems at busy public hospitals.

What should public hospitals prioritise most: infrastructure, digital services or staff well-being?
