Cong, BJP at loggerheads during HP poll campaign - India

Una, Oct 29 (ANI): Hitting out at the present BJP-led Himachal Pradesh government while campaigning for polls in Una district, Prime minister, Manmohan Singh today said that the BJP had paid no attention to development in the state. Singh further said that whatever development was carried out in the state was due to the funds allocated by the central government. Earlier in the day, senior BJP leader, Lal Krishna Advani, had attacked the central government saying that it has been ignoring the state only because the BJP-led state government was in power.

Khurshid to aims at strengthening relation with Pak, China - India

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): After the major reshuffle that took place today, newly appointed External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid seemed to be very much in form as he talked about strengthening India's relationship with China and Pakistan. Addressing media persons, Khurshid said that bilateral relationship with neighbouring China has wide potential for improvement even as he points that the political turmoil in Pakistan is a matter of concern for India. Khurshid also stated that his motive remains to strengthen bilateral relations with both countries in wake of the changing economic order.

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): Retaining his Indian Grand Prix title for the second consecutive season in a row, Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel today rattled off his fourth consecutive win of the season by leading over Ferrari's Fernando Alonso at the Buddh International Circuit. The defending champion had taken pole position a day earlier and managed to keep his lead throughout the 60 laps. "Thank you boys. Each and everyone of you, wherever you are," were his first words on the team radio after crossing the finishing line. Vettel maintained a steady lead throughout over Alonso, who finished second, and team-mate Mark Webber, who's Red Bull grabbed the third pole.

Honour killing: Family kills girl for marrying classmate - India

Panipat, Oct 28 (ANI): In yet another shocking report from Haryana, a second-year BBA student has been allegedly killed by her family for marrying her classmate who belonged to a different caste. Indu, the victim, had married her friend Ajay against her parents wishes. Indu's parents had convinced her in-laws to let her go home with them after the wedding. But later, a friend informed Ajay that his wife had died and was being cremated in haste. The police at first allegedly refused to register a case of honour killing and murder and detained Ajay and his father. The Panipat police has registered a case under section 302, 201 and 120 B against the girl's father, mother and two other persons.

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): The much-anticipated Cabinet reshuffle of the Manmohan Singh led UPA-II Government took place today, with the Cabinet going in for a major makeover on most of its fronts. In what is being seen as its last reshuffle, prior to the 2014 general elections, 22 ministers were sworn in, of which 10 were first-timers. As was expected, the swearing-in ceremony that was held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, saw a host of new and 'young' faces making entry into the Union Cabinet. Salman Khurshid replaced SM Krishna as the new External Affairs Minister, while A Rahman Khan got Minority Affairs. Veerappa Moily is the new Petroleum Minister, while Jaipal Reddy now goes to the education ministry.

Cops raid bar, detain 18 people - India

Mumbai, Oct 28 (ANI): Acting on a tip off, the Social Service Branch of the Mumbai Police raided a bar in the city and detained over 13 customers, four stewards and a manager. Nine girls were rescued in the raids, who were allegedly involved in immoral trafficking. According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Mumbai Social Service branch, Krishna Prakash, they received information that women were indulging in flesh trade at the bar.
