New Delhi, June 13

The Boxing Federation of India has expanded the country's contingent for the World Boxing Cup 2026 Stage 2 in Guiyang, China, with Jyoti and Aakash being added to the squad ahead of the tournament.

With the tournament set to commence on Monday, the two boxers were not part of the final government-sanctioned contingent. BFI President Ajay Singh stepped in to ensure their participation, allowing Jyoti and Aakash to join the Indian squad for the World Boxing Cup Stage 2 in Guiyang, China.

The decision will enable Jyoti and Aakash to join the Indian team in Guiyang, providing them with valuable international exposure and an opportunity to compete against top-level opposition while earning important ranking points on the international circuit.

"Our foremost responsibility is towards the athletes. International competitions play a vital role in a boxer's development, and every deserving athlete should have the opportunity to test themselves against the best in the world," said Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India.

"Jyoti and Aakash have worked hard to earn this chance, and it is important that they are able to compete, gain valuable exposure against top international opponents, and further their development at the highest level," he added.

With the inclusion of Jyoti and Aakash, India's contingent for World Boxing Cup Stage 2 in Guiyang has been expanded from 18 to 20 boxers, comprising 10 men and 10 women.

Honestly, why were these two not included in the first place? This seems like last-minute scrambling. Of course, I'm happy for Jyoti and Aakash, but the federation needs to be more organized. These administrative hiccups shouldn't become a habit.

Good move by Ajay Singh. India's boxing future is bright with these young talents. The men's squad has some interesting names like Abhinash Jamwal and Malsawmtluanga. Looking forward to seeing how our boys and girls perform against international competition. 💪

It's encouraging to see BFI prioritizing athletes' development. International exposure is crucial for Indian boxers who often lack the experience of facing top global competitors. Hope Jyoti and Aakash make the most of this opportunity and bring back good rankings.

10 men and 10 women—balanced representation! Nice to see women's boxing getting equal importance in India. But I hope the federation ensures proper facilities and coaching for all boxers, not just the star performers. Sabka saath, sabka vikas! 🙏

Why does this always happen? Last-minute additions, government sanction issues... Our athletes deserve better planning. Even after being added, the pressure of suddenly preparing for a major tournament can affect performance. Hope the BFI learns from this and streamlines the selection process earlier next time.
