Time to be happy and gay
There is surge of happiness in the gay community. High court decriminalized the homosexuality, ruling that consensual sexual activity in same-sex adults is legal.
The gay community have finally won the long fought battle for their legal acceptance. We ask the people from the industry of what they think about the legalization of gay community.
Bobby Darling, actor
Now people who are in closet will come out in open. It’s been a big fight. I believe I have directly-indirectly contributed to this fight. Many unknown people congratulated me. Initially my family was against it but now they are with me. Gay community has been partying all night. I did get the invite but I preferred watching Kambakht Ishq.
Suresh Menon, actor
I know Bobby Darling and she is wonderful person. It’s good that it has got legalized. Many people will come out of closet aur pata chala whole world is full of gays. These are people with different genes and we should respect them. But there should be no misuse of this freedom. I have played gay but I portrayed them powerfully, not frivolously. I have only entertained people but never made fun of them.
Makrand deshpande, theatre personality
It is welcomed. If there are gays and they wish to get married why they should be not allowed. Anything that is different people make fun of it but may be after this legality, things will change. Dignity comes after social awareness. It would be interesting point. It has not just happened in 21st century it has been there from long time. Legalization will only allow them to come out openly.
Ragini Khanna, TV actor
It’s good for people who have chosen to live that life. I am neither ecstatic nor against it. They are not special or secluded ones, they are absolutely normal people.
Anu Menon aka Lola kutty, VJ
It has relieved so many people. They are not alien, they are very much normal but it’s true that they could not feel normal from long time. There are so many people who are homophobic. There has to be the change in attitude towards homosexuality and the way it is perceived.
Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi, Stand up comedian
People who belong to this community can only know what they have been going through all these while. Had it been a fashion it would have been rubbished long back but now whole world is acknowledging their existence and they should have the right to live the way they want. Provided they do not harm the society. This is their genetic problem that they have to live like this. Making fun of anyone for the sake of comedy is fine but if anybody is intentionally demeaning them toh isse ghatiya baat kuch aur ho nahin sakti.
