"I would never insult my friends...": Selena Gomez clarifies that she didn't target BFF Taylor Swift in social media remark
Los Angeles, June 13
Singer-actor Selena Gomez is setting the record straight amid reports suggesting the 'Only Murders in the Building' has been shading her longtime friend, fellow singer Taylor Swift.
In a series of Instagram stories, Gomez clarified her stance and explained that she would never insult her friends and that her comment was misunderstood.
"Woke up and was sent so many texts. I would never insult my friends, nor was it an insult. The comment was a reaction to the first slide on the page. Second, I bet my friends on the game. The friends in the text chain I posted. I lost but was poking at my opponents, my friends. Believe it or not I do have other friends in my life. But quickly forget that most assume otherwise, also. It's a basketball game," Selena wrote.
The reaction arrived on the heels of the singer's congratulatory message for the Knicks following their 107-106 victory over the Spurs after trailing by 29 points.
"Mad respect for the game!! Congrats to the peeps that represent! What a comeback. So funny how some are all of a sudden fans though lol," she wrote over a screenshot of an NBA article, as per People.
The screenshot also had photos of various celebrities in attendance, including the likes of Taylor Swift and others, leaving fans to believe that she was shading Swift.
Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have been friends for a very long time, supporting each other through personal and professional highs and lows.
Their bond was beautifully evident when Taylor stood by Selena's side during her wedding to Benny Blanco, joining the celebration of her best friend's most important life moments.

I get Selena's frustration. When you have a tight-knit friend group, everything gets overanalyzed. The NBA post was clearly about the game, not Taylor. Media loves stirring up fake beef for clicks.
Selena handled this very maturely. In India, we have a saying - 'jo dikhta hai wohi sach nahi hota' (what you see isn't always the truth). People forget celebrities are humans too. Taylor and Selena's bond is solid, end of story! 🙌
I personally think Selena could have been more careful with her wording. When you have a famous bestie like Taylor, every post gets scrutinized. But her clarification was classy. People need to mind their own business.
Why do we even care if celebrities shade each other? Focus on real issues. But since we're here, Selena is right - everyone's a fan when there's a comeback. And that joke about having other friends was funny too 😂
