Rain claims 10 lives in Tamil Nadu , heavy showers likely

Chennai, Nov 5 : Ten people were killed in rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu where more rains were forecast for the next 24 hours following Low Pressure trough over Comerin area in the South West Bay that extended upto the state and South Andhra coast.

Reports received at the police headquarters here today said 10 people were killed in various rain-related incidents during the last 24 hours.

However, the district-wise break-up was being estimated, the reports added.

Chennai City and its suburbs experienced steady rain since yesterday afternoon. There was heavy rain since last night and it abated around 0700 hrs this morning.

Several roads were water-logged due to persistent rains.

Though the sky remained grey, sun came out at around noon.

Chennai City received 15 cm of rains followed by the suburban Meenambakkam observatory recorded with 13 cm of rain during the last 24 hours ending at 0830 hrs today, the highest so far this season, after the North East Monsoon broke out last week.
