Deve Gowda performs 'Matru Tarpan Sanskar'
Palanpur, Nov 4 : Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda looked more of Vokkaliga Kannad Brahmin than a political leader as he squatted for performing the ''Matru Tarpan Sanskar'' for his mother, today.
The entire ritual took more than two and a half hours at the holy Bindu Sarowar. ''Though he hardly knew the local language, Mr Gowda has good knowledge of Sanskrit and performed the rituals with all patients and devotion,'' Jayesh Pandya Patil, who led a team of the seven priests, on the occasion, said.
Accompanied by Gujarat health and family planning Minister Jaynarayan Vyas, the 76-year-old former prime minister reached Sidhpur by car from Ahmedabad where district Collector Patan Bharat Rawal and District Development officer Sandeep Kumar welcomed him.
Mr Gowda drove for Ambaji in the afternoon. He will leave for Ahmedabad tomorrow and then leave for Bangalore, Mr Gowda's Ahmedabad-based family friend Dr Gitesh Shah, who has been accompanying him, said.
