CM vows to carry forward YSR's unfinished agenda

Hyderabad, Nov 2 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today asserted that he would strive hard to fulfil the unfinished agenda of his predecessor late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

''I cannot match the speed of YSR. But I will certainly make a constant effort to complete his unfinished agenda,'' Mr Rosaiah said at a meeting organised by the State Kisan-Kheth Mazdoor Congress in the memory of YSR.

He highlighted various farmer-friendly initiatives of YSR, starting from free power supply for energising their pumpsets to Rs 5,000 incentive to each farmer uncovered by the loan waiver scheme announced by the Centre.

The incentive scheme was implemented only in Andhra Pradesh, and even in Punjab, the Congress, which had promised free power earlier, could not fulfil it, Mr Rosaiah said, adding YSR had implemented free power, overcoming all hurdles and even by purchasing power at a high cost of upto Rs 12 per unit.

''The void left by YSR is visible in every field. YSR has not only won the hearts of farmers with pro-peasant policies, but people from all walks of life, including women, conferring benefits to every section of people,'' he observed.

Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy expressed confidence that the Congress Government, under the leadership of experienced Rosaiah, who as Finance Minister had mobilised funds for every initiative of YSR, including 'Jalayagnam,' would be able to implement all of them.

Earlier, cutting across partylines, farmers' leaders praised YSR for his ''farmer-friendly policies'' and introduction of 'saturation concept' in implementation of welfare programmes.
