Blasts and crime do not affect tourism in Goa : GTDC
Panaji, Oct 23: The Diwali-eve scooter blast that killed two people and spurt in crime reported in this international tourist destination of Goa have not affected tourism in the state, state tourism development corporation chairman Shyam Satardekar has claimed.
Interacting with mediapersons after inaugurating the 3-day international travel and tourism exhibition hosted by the GTDC, Mr Satardekar said the crime including the reported murder of the British teenager Scarlette and 26/11 blasts in Mumbai had not affected tourism in Goa.
He also stressed the need for iexploring the inter-state tourism potential to boost tourism across the country. The GTDC is hosting the event organised by the India Travel Mart Rajasthan is the partner State, Uttarakhand and Gujarat are the feature states and Malaysia is partner country for this mega event.
The exhibition showcases events related to the best from the Travel, Tourism, Hospitality and other related industries.
The main focus of the exhibition is on making travel more interesting and hassle free.
Traditional Masak dance of Rajasthan to the tune of the bagpiper and drum beats enthralled the visitors at the exhibition.
''It provides a detailed knowledge about the various sources that can help make most of your travel. There is a wide variety of attractive packages and unique tourist destinations to choose from. The exhibition also focuses on inbound, outbound & domestic tourism,'' according to the organizers.
The participants include International Tourism Boards & Organizations, State Tourism Departments/ Organizations like Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), Rajasthan Tourism, Gujarat Tourism, Uttarakhand Tourism, Jammu & Kashmir Tourism, Himachal Tourism, Chhatisgarh Tourism, Jharkhand Tourism, Uttar Pradesh and leading Hotels, Resorts, Palaces, Travel Agencies, Tour Operators/Organizers and many more. The Participants will display and provide information of their destinations, attractive Holiday, Travel, Tour Packages and other related services.
According to Mr Ajay Gupta, Director of ITM, the mart came up with not only a variety of holiday destinations but offers the best packages and deals in the industry.
''The basic purpose of holding this event is to boost tourism awareness worldwide. We believe that the inflow of domestic and outbound tourists will increase in coming months and Goa will play a vital role in promotion of Tourism,'' Mr Gupta added.
