J&K DGP chairs hybrid operational review meeting with police, CAPF

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Thursday chaired a hybrid operational review meeting with senior officers of police and the Central Armed Police Forces.
Officials said DGP Prabhat chaired the meeting, aimed at reviewing the prevailing security scenario, law and order situation, and operational preparedness across the union territory.
Senior officers from various ranges, districts and wings of J&K Police joined the review virtually and in person, while senior officers of CAPF also participated.
The discussions during the meeting focused on counter-infiltration measures, area domination, intelligence sharing, and measures to ensure peace and public safety ahead of upcoming events.
The DGP stressed maintaining high alertness, better coordination between J&K Police and CAPFs, and proactive policing to foil any attempts to disturb peace.
A hybrid operational meeting is a regular security sync-up where some team members sit together in a physical office room while others join through online video tools. It focuses on daily workflows, operational updates and team tasks.
Sources said that discussions focused on counter-infiltration measures, area domination, intelligence sharing, and measures to ensure peace and public safety ahead of upcoming events. The meeting also provided an opportunity to assess ongoing security measures and operational requirements in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
There has been a high security alert throughout the union territory after the daylight killing of a police head constable, Ashiq Qureshi, in Anantnag town by terrorists on July 31 while he was deployed on Yatra duty. This terror incident was followed by the killings of two non-local labourers in Kellam village of Kulgam district by the terrorists. These two non-local brick kiln labourers were shot from close range. They were identified as Deepak and Bopinder, both in their 20s, belonging to Chhattisgarh.
There is also heightened security around the country's Independence Day and security has been beefed up to ensure that all the parades, flag-hoisting and cultural programmes pass off peacefully. Security concerns are more because a large number of people are expected to attend the official celebrations on August 15. The main parade and flag-hoisting will be done at the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will preside over the main function.
Meanwhile, a full-dress rehearsal was held at the Bakshi Stadium earlier in the day, in which Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg took the salute.

The timing of this meeting is right before Independence Day, which shows the seriousness of the situation. However, I wish there was more focus on building trust with the local population. Security is important, but so is winning hearts and minds.

While the operational readiness is appreciated, I'm concerned about the safety of labourers from other states working in J&K. The killing of the two Chhattisgarh workers is tragic. The security apparatus must also focus on protecting civilians and migrant workers.
