Bangaloreans usher in new year with gaiety
Hundreds of Bangaloreans, particularly youth, thronged popular hangouts like Brigade Road, M.G. Road, Commercial Street and Church Street in city to bid bye to 2013 and cheer in 2014 singing, dancing and greeting each other on the occasion.
The hangouts were brightly lit to add colour to the celebrations while in many areas a burst of crackers greeted the new year.
Police had stopped vehicular movement in these roads since 8.00 p.m. to facilitate free movement of the crowd gathering in the area.
Hundreds of policemen kept a watch on the revellers to ensure that the celebrations went off peacefully and very few women, many with their families, who also joined in the reverly were not harrassed.
New year eve celebrations were also held in many places across Karnataka including Mangalore, which has a large christian population, in the west coast, Mysore in the south and the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad in the north.
