Kamal Nath urges MP CM to act over cattle deaths at Chhindwara gaushala

Veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath on Monday wrote to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, expressing concern over the reported deaths of a large number of cattle at the Adarsh Gaushala in Chhindwara and urging the state government to take immediate steps to improve cattle welfare and gaushala management.
In his letter, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath referred to media reports claiming that around 43 cattle died during the first 19 days of July and that the death toll had crossed 90 within a month. He also said veterinary doctors and staff were not regularly present at the gaushala during this period.
"The death of a large number of cattle within a short period at the Adarsh Gaushala in Chhindwara is extremely tragic and a matter of serious concern. It raises serious questions over the arrangements for cattle protection in the state," Nath said.
Kamal Nath, who is representing the Chhindwara Assembly seat, said cattle are an integral part of India's culture, faith and rural economy, and gaushalas are meant to protect and care for them. However, he said reports of cattle dying due to the lack of adequate fodder, clean drinking water and proper medical treatment were a matter of grave concern.
In his letter to the Chief Minister, the Congress leader said the incident reflected the need to improve the functioning of gaushalas and ensure proper monitoring of their facilities. He urged the Chief Minister to take the issue seriously and issue necessary directions to strengthen cattle care across the state.
"I request you to give serious consideration to this highly sensitive issue and take the necessary and effective decisions so that such tragic incidents do not recur and every gaushala in the state is provided with proper care, treatment and essential facilities," Nath said in the letter.
He also appealed to the government to ensure the availability of adequate fodder, clean drinking water, regular veterinary services and proper staff at gaushalas so that such incidents are not repeated in future.

Kamal Nath ji's concern is valid, but let's be honest - this isn't a new problem. Gaushalas across MP have been mismanaged for years. The real issue is lack of accountability and regular monitoring. Every gaushala should have a proper audit system and emergency veterinary services. This is about basic humanity, not politics.
It's tragic that even in a state with so much agricultural land, cattle are dying from lack of fodder and clean water. India's love for cows seems selective sometimes - we revere them symbolically but neglect them practically. Hope this tragedy leads to real systemic change, not just political statements.
As someone from Chhindwara, I can confirm this gaushala has been poorly managed for a while. What's worse is that many people donate money and fodder to gaushalas thinking they're helping, but the funds often don't reach where they're needed. Time for strict transparency measures and surprise inspections by the animal husbandry department.
90 deaths in a month? That's absolutely unacceptable. The fact that veterinary doctors weren't even present regularly shows gross negligence. Whoever is running this gaushala should be held accountable. This is animal cruelty, pure and simple. Every state needs to implement strict SOPs for gaushala management.
Kamal Nath has every right to raise this issue since it's in his constituency. But let's not forget that when his own party was in power in MP, similar problems existed.
