Expressing concern over sudden breach in embankments of the Kosi river in Nepal, the
chief minister said efforts were on to plug the breaches at the earliest.
An expert committee had already started its work on war footing following
necessary clearance from the Nepal government, he informed.
The problem was more compound as the mighty river was gradually changing its
course, the Chief minister said, adding the Nepal government had released over nine lakh
cusec of water, which inundated most of north Bihar every year.
He also directed the local authorities to take stern action against any
irregularity in the distribution of relief material among the flood victims. He also asked
them to open more relief camps to shelter the victims.
Mr Kumar has instructed the Irrigation Minister to convene an all party meeting
to ensure coordinated efforts by concenred agencies to fight the flood fury.
He also directed senior officials of Madhepura, Supaul and Araria districts to
prepare an action plan ensuring timely provision of relief to the flood victims.
