Shakespeare MA Malayalam is a great comedy film to hit Malayalam theatres in some time.
The director duo Shaiju – Shaiji has churned out an excellent rib-tickler in their debut venture. Jayasurya plays the protagonist of the movie, while Kalabhavan Mani gives an outstanding performance. With music done by Mohan Sithara and released under the banner of Kamalam Films, Shakespeare MA Malayalam is an excellent addition to the comedy genre of the South Indian movie industry.
The storyline of Shakespeare MA Malayalam centers around Pavithran (Jayasurya) who as a playwright who believes heartily in Shakespeare’s “All world is a stage and we are all actors” and his characters are based on real people around him as he believes in drama reflecting real life on stage. This earns him the epithet ‘Shakespeare Pavithran’. When he hits a bad patch, Kottyan Gopalan, the owner cum actor-director of the Jayabharathi theatre, suggests him taking a break in a village. So, the playwright with a couple of friends comes to Kakkathuruthu where he gets acquainted and interested in village girl Alli (Roma). Pavithran starts writing a play titled ‘Prakasham Parathunna Penkutty’ on Alli, taking his plot from the real life situations faced by her. There is a sentimental twist to the tale as in the end Pavithran discovers there is more in life than what is seen on stage.
Shakespeare MA Malayalam has great fun moments and equally dud ones. The music is average, while the background score essential attunes with the story. The directors have overall done well in presenting a good comedy with the cast and the script gelling well together.
