PCB chief rubbishes claims of security lapses

Lahore, March 5 : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt Thursday rubbished claims by Sri Lankan cricketers and match officials on security lapses in Lahore.

"Our people have also been injured. We lost six policemen who were trying to protect the cricketers and the match officials. So if some one is complaining about just a scratch, then it is very sad," Butt told reporters here.

Sri Lankan cricketers, match referee Chris Broad, and Australian umpires Simon Taufel and Steve Davies said that there were security lapses and it allowed terrorists to spray bullets and lob grenades on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore Tuesday.

The attack left six policemen dead and an equal number of Sri Lankan cricketers injured. Besides, Pakistani umpire Ahsan Raza was critically injured.

Broad, Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan and Taufel have told media that they suspected that insiders were involved in the attack.

Rubbishing all such claims, PCB's human resource chief Wasim Bari said: "Let the investigations conclude then we will get to know what were the security lapses."
