Nishank inaugurates 28 Kumbh Mela works
Dehradun, Nov 8 : Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' today inaugurated 28 development-related works for Kumbh Mela which will commence early next year at Haridwar.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that all efforts were made to ensure the Kumbh Mela a grand success.
He said the Centre had sanctioned Rs 440 crore for the Mela, out of which Rs 220 crore had already been spent for the purpose.
Dr Pokhriyal said some permanent infrastructure related work for Kumbh Mela was being carried out this time for the first time in its history. It would contribute a lot to the development of Haridwar.
A government official said, ''The first bath (snan) at Kumbh Mela will be held on January 14 next year.'' The authorities have to complete a total 250 Kumb-related works before that.
Today only 28, out of 250 works were inaugurated. This shows that the government will have to race against the time to complete the mela work on time.
