IIT Roorkee Dismisses JEE Advanced 2026 Irregularity Claims as False

IIT Roorkee, the organizing institute for JEE Advanced 2026, has dismissed claims of irregularities in candidate marks and rankings as "factually incorrect." The institute clarified that substantial mark differences between paper 1 and paper 2 are only seen in two of the top 10,000 candidates and are not unusual. A thorough verification found no evidence of cheating, malpractice, or data manipulation. The clarification follows social media allegations about rank lists, mark distributions, and a supposed data breach.

IIT Roorkee dismisses claims of irregularities in JEE (Advanced) 2026, says circulated data "factually incorrect"

New Delhi, June 11

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, the organising institute for JEE 2026, dismissed claims circulating on social media regarding alleged discrepancies in candidate marks and rankings, stating that the information being shared is "factually incorrect" and does not correspond to any official records.

In a post on X, IIT Roorkee said, "It has come to the notice through some candidates and their parents that inaccurate and fabricated data purportedly showing candidate ranks, total marks, and inter-paper mark differentials for JEE (Advanced) 2026 are being widely circulated on the internet and across social media platforms. In this regard, it is stated unambiguously that the information in circulation is factually incorrect. None of the data appearing in the circulated lists corresponds to any officially released record."

Addressing claims regarding large differences in marks obtained in "paper 1 and paper 2" by only two candidates, the institute said such variations were neither unusual nor unprecedented.

"The substantial difference in marks obtained in paper 1 and paper 2 is observed only for 2 candidates out of the top 10000 candidates. It is not very surprising as the variation in marks between the two papers is an observed and well documented phenomenon that has been tracked and analysed by the conducting authority every year. There is nothing exceptional or anomalous about the 2026 results," IIT Roorkee said in the post.

The IIT Roorkee further stated that all examination records and related data had undergone thorough scrutiny.

"Comprehensive verification of all examination records and related data has been carried out. No evidence whatsoever of cheating, malpractice, unauthorised assistance, data manipulation, or any compromise of the examination process has been found at any stage of JEE (Advanced) 2026," the institute added.

The clarification comes amid social media discussions and allegations surrounding the JEE (Advanced) 2026 results, particularly claims relating to rank lists, mark distributions and inter-paper score differences.

Earlier, IIT Roorkee refuted claims of a data breach and privacy violation affecting lakhs of JEE (Advanced) aspirants, calling them "misleading and factually incorrect."

In a post on X, the institution wrote, "Claims of a data breach and privacy violation affecting lakhs of JEE (Advanced) aspirants are misleading and factually incorrect. The information circulating on social media is misleading and does not accurately reflect what happened. There is an attempt at spreading misinformation, which is far from the truth."

My son wrote JEE Adv this year and I've been seeing these WhatsApp forwards about "irregularities." Really stressful for parents. IIT Roorkee's statement is reassuring but I hope they also investigate why such misinformation spreads so quickly. Our education system needs more digital literacy. The 2 candidates with high variance out of 10,000 is statistically insignificant, as they rightly said. Bhagwan ka shukar hai, at least official clarity aayi.

As a former JEE aspirant (2019 batch), I can understand the paranoia. The exam is incredibly tough and emotions run high. But the way IITs handle these allegations is actually quite professional - they conduct thorough audits and share findings publicly. The social media frenzy about "data breaches" often lacks evidence. Let's give the conducting body benefit of doubt unless concrete proof emerges. Also, 2 out of 10,000 is a negligible anomaly statistically.

👏 Good that IIT Roorkee is clarifying, but why are such baseless allegations even getting traction? Some people just want to create panic. The JEE system might have its flaws, but data manipulation isn't one of them. Let's not forget how many students work their whole life for this exam. We should celebrate talent, not spread fake news. 🙏

I find it strange that people still believe WhatsApp University over official IIT communiqués. The institute has a 175-year legacy of academic rigour. That said, the communication could be better - maybe a detailed pie-chart of marks distribution would help. But overall, good job by IIT Roorkee for nipping these rumours in the bud. Now let's focus on helping kids prepare for the next steps instead of spreading panic.
