Centre to provide 'package' for Khadi
Hubli, Nov 7 : Senior Journalist and Chairman of Karnataka Abhivraddi Vedike Patil Puttappa today said that the Union Government had assured to provide an improvement package to develop Khadi industry which is symbol of Swadeshi movement.
Addressing a press conference here today he said that this assurance was given by the Union finance Minister Pranab Mukharji and Central Khadi Board Chairperson Ms Kumud Ben.
He said that the Union Government had also in principle agreed to consider Khadi as National cloth so that all the citizens of this nation could wear it.
He said that a memorandum was submitted to the Union finance Minister recently highlighting the plight of Khadi industry, a brain child and the dream of Mahatma Gandhi, was subjected to utter neglect.
He also said that the delegation had urged the Union government to provide maximum attention and help to Khadi and village industry with god sum as remuneration of the workers, modernize the industry and provide maximum market to the Khadi product.
To avoid the spurious marketing if duplicate Khadi, the delegation had urged the Government to provide copy right status to Khadi so that none could copy it.
The delegation consisted of Dr Shrinivasaiah, Umesh Bliger, Prof I G Sanadi, and R R Hombal.
Referring to Hubli-Ankola Rail link, he said that the Minister for State for Railways K H Muniyappa and also Union Environment minister Jairam Ramesh have agreed to provide clearance of forest ministry soon so that the rail line could be completed early.
Dr Puttappa also said that the railway ministry had promised to provide Intercity between Hubli-Pune, Hubli Gulbarga and Hubli Bellary He said that the delegation which met Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Mrs. Ambika Soni to impress her on upgrading Dharwad television station and put to more use. Apart from that they also met Union Agriculture Minister to urge him to start Central Agriculture University at Dharwad Agriculture University campus.
