Hotel industry in NCR on the boom ahead of C'wealth Games
Gurgaon, Nov 6 : In view of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the augmentation of hotel accommodation in the National Capital Region (NCR) region has gained momentum.
Talking to media persons after the inaugurating a new hotel here, Union Tourism Secretary Banerjee said augmentation of hotel accommodation in the NCR region was taken up in view of the expected high demand for rooms for tourists and guests likely to visit in connection with the Commonwealth Games.
As part of preparations for the Games, he inaugurated the Country Inn and Sweets Boutique Hotel in Sector 29 here late last evening.Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also inaugurated Leela Kampeinski's five star hotel in the Ambience Mall in Gurgaon.
Mr Banerjee said a Task Force under his chairmanship had been regularly reviewing the progress regarding creation of hotel accommodation in the areas near Delhi in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi itself.
He said Haryana was providing a major chunk of hotel accommodation for the Commonwealth Games and the efforts being made by the state government in this direction had been commended by the Central government.
Giving details of the accommodation likely to be made available in Haryana, the Tourism Secretary stated that as per latest position, 6632 rooms were in the definite category and 2161 rooms were in the likely category. Out of 6632 rooms, 4224 rooms had already been completed. Out of these, 3814 rooms were already functional and 410 rooms were likely to be made functional shortly. For the remaining rooms, the progress was being closely monitored so that they were also completed at the earliest.
Under the likely category, the progress of construction was being monitored project-wise and the government was providing facilitation regarding sanction of loans and expediting grant of licences so that these rooms could also be completed and made available for the Commonwealth Games.
He said Haryana would provide about 8793 rooms during the Commonwealth Games and the state government had allotted 101 sites for construction of these rooms.
The Haryana State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) has allotted three sites for 417 rooms, Town and Country Planning Department has allotted 12 sites for 2395 rooms, Urban Local Bodies Department has also allotted 12 sites for 889 rooms.
Similarly, HUDA has allotted 25 sites for 2369 rooms and there were 15 complexes of Haryana Tourisms in which 488 rooms were available. In addition to 1477 rooms in 28 already existing Private Hotels, CLU for 6 other hotels have also been issued in which 758 rooms would be got constructed. Out of these, 8793 rooms 6632 are in definite category, 305 in likely category and 1856 in doubtful category.
