Tata Steel sales up 38 per cent
Jamshedpur, Nov 6 : India's largest private sector steel company Tata Steel has registered a 38 per cent increase in its sales during October due to an apparent 'boom' in demand from construction sector.
According to October 2009 sales and production figures of Jamshedpur steel plant of Tata Steel, the company's sole operational unit in India, released here today, the total sales last month was 462,000 tonnes, 37 per cent higher than that of Ocotber 2008.
Production of hot metal (649,000 tonnes), Crude Steel (599,000 tonnes) and Saleable Steel (570,000 tonnes) was also up by 17, 22 and 21 per cent respectively, as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
The production of hot metal was highest ever in any month. The production of long products, used primarily in the construction sector, saw an increase of 89 per cent. Production of flat products, used mainly in auto sector, increased merely by 13 per cent.
