Terror attack perpetrators allowed to escape: Army chief
New Delhi, Nov 4 : Army chief General Deepak Kapoor today said India could not afford a repeat of 26/11 attacks while rueing the fact that it had repeatedly allowed the perpetrators of terror attacks on its soil to get away.
Addressing a seminar on Network Centricity and National Security organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, Gen Kapoor said while the US has not allowed a repeat of 9/11 and Indonesia did all to prevent another Bali-type bombing on its soil, India has repeatedly allowed itself to be made a victim of terror by letting off those responsible for perpetrating such heinous crime against humanity.
''India had allowed those behind the 2001 Parliament attack, Delhi blasts and Mumbai terror attack to get away,'' he said while adding that, however, ''India cannot afford a repeat of 26/11''.
Underlining the importance of network centricity to gather and share quality Intelligence, the Army chief said, ''There has to be speedy flow of Intelligence and updated data for speedy decision, followed by swift action.'' On November 1, Home Minister P Chidambaram had said that any repeat of 26/11 would invite fierce retaliation.
''Our strength to take on terrorism from foreign soil is increasing by the day. I have been warning Pakistan not to play any more games. Let Mumbai be the last such game. If they carry out any more attacks on India, they will not only be defeated, but we will also retaliate with the force of a sledgehammer,'' he had told a public meeting, held in connection with the 25th anniversary of Indira Gandhi's assassination, in Madurai while addressing Congress workers in Tamil.
