Indian cricketers need greater consistency in performance:Kirti Azad
Patna, Nov 4 : Former India international and member of the 1983 world Cup winning team Kirti Azad today praised the present Indian team for their 'fighting spirit',but felt that some players needed greater consistency in their performance at the highest level.
Speaking to UNI about the overall performance of the Dhoni Brigade against the mighty Aussies, the former Indian alrounder said though senior players like Sachin(Tendulkar),(M.S.)Dhoni and Yvaraj(Singh) had been maintaining thier top forms in batting along with Harbhajan(Singh)in the bowling department, the consistency in the performance of others were lacking very much.
The problem of continuous injury of some senior and best players like Virendra Sehbag was also a cause for concern,he said and felt that the country's top class youngsters should be able to prove their mantle whenever they got any chance to play for the country.
Showering accolades on the Indian team for drubbing the world champions in two consecutive one dayers at Nagpur and New Delhi in the on going series,Mr Azad said had we been a bit more aggresive at Vadodara in the first tie we could have forged ahead with a 3-1 lead by now.
Referring to the 24-run defeat of the home team at Mohali on Sunday last, the cricketer turned politician Mr Azad was categorical in stating that ''you do not expect to beat the world beaters on every occasion''.
''However,Indian bowlers should have restricted the opponent by 220 to help the batsmen to flourish in a bouncy wicket like Mohali'', he said.
About the possible final outcome after the seven match series, Azad was confident that India would ''certainly ''clinch the series.
