I'd love to do Bollywood films if given a chance: Thai actress

New Delhi, Nov 4 : She enthralled the cinema lovers in India with her 'sensual item number' at the opening event of a Bollywood film festival in Bangkok.

Mamee Nakprasite, the Thai actress who plays the lead in the Thai-American film 'Bitter Sweet', which had its Asian premiere at the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) film festival in Mumbai last night, says she is in love with Bollywood.

''I'd love to do a Bollywood film, if I get an offer, '' Mamee said on the eve of the screening of 'Bitter Sweet' at the MAMI.

A unique Thai-American film, ‘Bitter Sweet’ has a grand cast from both the countries.

Mamee, who attended the premiere in Mumbai along with the film's Bangkok-based Swiss producer Urs Brunner, said she was excited at attending the MAMI film festival.

''I'm very excited, firstly because this is the first film festival I’m attending. And secondly, because I’ve always been dying to visit India,'' she told UNI from Mumbai.

About her experience of performing at the two Bollywood events in Mumbai, the Thai actress said, ''I was excited on wearing a sari and doing a Bollywood dance at the opening of the Bollywood film festival in Bangkok last month. But it was not easy - I practised so much! ''I’m also happy that many people liked the Bollywood dance I did for the Superstar Reality TV show. Bollywood dance has become pretty popular in Bangkok, and there are many teachers here.'' The actress said she was excited to be in Mumbai, the centre of Hindi films in India.

''It's the centre for Bollywood films and I’m so excited ! I want to go shopping, sightseeing, eating. And yes, it will be great if I can attend a class of Bollywood dancing,'' Mamee said.

The actress said she was exited about being in India.

''I am excited about meeting Indian audiences, who I hear, are great movie-lovers. To me, audience's reactions are very important, as it helps to improve me as an actress. I’m always looking for ways to improve myself,'' the actress said.

Shot at a cost of five million US Dollars in the rarely-seen coffee plantations of the famed beach island of Krabi in Thailand, 'Bitter Sweet's American cast includes director Jeff Hare, producer Jon Karas, dashing actor Kip Pardue, character actor Spencer Garret and the veteran famed Hollywood star James Brolin ( husband of Barbara Streisand and father of Oscar-winner Josh Brolin).

The Thai cast includes a grand battery of old and new stars. The slim and sultry Mamee, who plays the romantic lead is one of the most versatile, young actresses on the Thai screen, who has done 12 films, including some international productions.

Well-known singer Tata Young makes a guest appearance, in the opening sequence of the romantic drama, which won over the audiences at many festivals in the US, and bagged the Best Director and Best Film awards at the Houston International film festival.

Her last film ‘The Coffin’ , a horror-drama, was screened at the 2008 Cannes festival.

Asked about her experience of working in the film, Mamee said, ''What I enjoyed most about the film, was the fact that it was a story about foreigners experiencing and enjoying Thai culture.

There was no tough part, as it was a love-comedy, and I didn’t have to work hard to express myself.'' Asked if it was easy for her to talk in English, she said, ''No, it was not, and I pracised a lot! But I guess nothing is difficult, if you spend time on it - and I’m real glad I spent a lot of time learning to speak English as it’s much easier now to do more international films.'' Mamee said she was nervous while acting with Hollywood actors Kip Pardue and James Brolin.

''I was nervous as I’ve never acted with such big Hollywood stars before,''she said.

She felt that 'Bitter Sweet' was a good promotion for Thailand 's beautiful Krabi island.

''It is a good promotion for Krabi, as not many people know of it, and I’m sure many people would like to visit it after seeing the film. There are many places equally amazing in Thailand that not many people know about.'' The actress is a great admirer of Bollywood cinema.

She recently partook in the opening event of a Bollywood Film Festival in Bangkok , where she did a sensual ‘item’ number.

She followed this up with a sizzling Bollywood dance, in the ongoing ‘Superstar Reality TV show’, where Mamee is one of nine Thai stars participating in the highly popular and lucrative TV show. In fact, she is rushing back to Bangkok , after the screening of ‘Bitter Sweet’ in Mumbai, as she has to gear up for the next episode of the TV show, which airs ‘live’ every Saturday.
