CBSE, ICSE schools asked to introduce Punjabi
Sultanpur Lodhi, Nov 2 : The Punjab Languages department has given an ultimatum till November 30 to the CBSE and ICSE affiliated private schools in Ludhiana, Mansa and Ferozepur districts to implement the Punjab Languages Act regarding the compulsory studies of Punjabi language up to 10th standard failing which action would be taken as per the new act.
This was disclosed by Punjab Education and Languages minister Dr Upinderjit Kaur while talking to media persons on the occasion the state level celebrations of Punjabi month by the Punjab Languages department here yesterday.
She said these schools falling in Ludhiana, Mansa and Ferozepur came to the notice of state level Punjabi Implementation Committee in its review meeting held in Chandigarh few days ago. The CBSE and ICSE schools in other districts had already introdduced Punjabi.
She disclosed that the government was ready to redress their problems in the implementation of Punjabi as a compulsory subject upto 10th standard in their schools. She gave strict warning to these schools to implement the decision of the government otherwise state government would be forced to first impose penalties as per law and then write to the CBSE or ICSE boards for the cancellation of their affiliations.
She disclosed that schools which had failed to implement Punjabi as a compulsory subject would be imposed penalty of Rs 25,000 for the first month, Rs 50,000 for the second month and Rs 75,000 for the third month after the expiry to notice to defaulting schools.
