TDP demands all party meet to discuss mining irregularities
Hyderabad, Oct 31 : Alleging illegal mining by the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) in Anantapur district, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today demanded that all leases given to OMC must be kept on hold forthwith and mining activity by the company stopped.
The state government should convene an all party meeting and place all files before all parties to prove transparency and accountability in the management of natural resources, he wrote in a letter to Chief Minister K Rosaiah, copy of which was released to media.
Taking serious note of yesterday's attack on the Anantapur District Forest Officer allegedly by OMC staff, he demanded the arrest and prosecution of the OMC staff involved in the crime.
''A resurvey by the Survey of India, as agreed before the Supreme Court, was imperative to fix the boundaries and verify the allegations of illegal mining. All the material on the ground must be seized immediately and a check post has to be put up to restrain any further transport of material'', he demanded.
The state government should ''restore respect'' for rule of law and protect public property from the clutches of such ''unlawful elements'', he demanded.
A delegation of TDP leaders also called on the Chief Minister to press these demands.
