'It is necessary to increase milk production in India: Mr Patel
Ahmedabad, Oct 31: Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Industries Dinsha Patel today said it was necessary to increase milk production in the country.
He was addressing a function organised by ''Amul Dairy'' -- Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited-- which is celebrating its 64th foundation day and 135th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel. He also recalled Sardar Patel’s contribution to ensure the livelihood for poor and marginal milk producers through dairying.
He also said though the milk production has increased manifold, the land under grass cultivation has decreased which was a case of great concern.
Amul has been able to reach its product across the world.
However, it is important that along with milk other products of India should obtain high returns to the producers.
Union Minister of State for Power Bharatsingh Solanki in his address said despite depression world over and unfavourable rain in the country, the dairy industry has been able to sustain the industry and ploughed back maximum returns to the milk producers.
He also expressed his concern over reduced grass lands adding that Union Government should come out with more schemes to help the farmers.
With regard to energy, he applauded Dairy’s efforts to utilise Natural gas as far as possible which will go a long way in reducing the cost of production especially in light of inadequate availability of electricity and other energy sources.
