Illegally mined limestone worth Rupees 500 crore seized

Porbandar, Oct 24 : In a major haul, the local administration has seized illegally mined limestone worth Rupees 500 crore at Tukda village near here.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials with the help of police raided a mining site and seized limestone, 30 machines, three trucks and two tractors, District Collector M B Parmar told newspersons last evening.

However, the labourers working there managed to escape, he said.

Mr Parmar said the mining was being carried out by one Vinod Premji, whose licence had been cancelled earlier.

Preliminary investigations by the officials of Mine and Mineral Department revealed that the seized mineral was worth Rs 500 crore, the collector said.

No arrests have been made in this connection so far, he added.
