Railway Bypass between ISBT-Prag Maidan by Jun'10
New Delhi, Oct 23 : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today exhorted Railway authorities to facilitate commissioning of the 5.5 km-long Ring Road bypass to provide uninterrupted route between ISBT and Pragati Maidan much before commencement of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Inspecting the work on the project, Ms Dikshit urged the authorities to provide push box enabled RUB entry below Shahdara-Delhi junction railway line near the Yamuna within the stipulated time to facilitate commissioning of the bypass before commencement of the Games.
It was stated by the railways that their work will be completed by May 2010.
Ms Dikshit, along with PWD Minister Rajkumar Chauhan, Pr Secretary to CM P K Tripathi, Pr Secretary PWD K K Sharma, ENC PWD Rakesh Mishra, General Manager Northern Railway Vivek Sahay and other senior officers and Chief Engineers inspected ongoing construction work of Ring Road bypass.
Ms Dikshit was informed that part of work being executed by the PWD will be completed before June 2010.
Hence, it is essential to have a link below railway line completed before that to make entire ring road bypass functional. The railway has to construct link below the railway line by pushing three boxes.
Ms Dikshit stressed upon the need of completion of railway work otherwise the entire project would remain non-functional.
The work on this project was started in January. The RR bypass will cost Rs 654 crore, including construction cost of Rs 400 crore, cost of land and shifting of services of various agencies.
Out of 5.5 km bypass road, 3.7 km is on the surface whereas rest is elevated.
The purpose of construction of Ring Road bypass is to decongest ring road from Rajghat to Hanuman Setu.
As it remains choked in this stretch due to heavy traffic, the situation becomes worse during movement of VVIPs who frequently visit Samadhies.
The Ring Road will pass under the new Geeta Colony bridge on river Yamuna. The RR bypass will also have a service road towards the river side and would have avenues of trees on both sides to maintain the greenery in the area.
It is understood that the DDA is going to develop area between RR bypass and the river Yamuna as its Golden Jubilee park on the lines of India Gate lawns.
The work on this project is being executed satisfactorily.
This project will provide an uninterrupted route to traffic from ISBT Kashmere Gate to Pragati Maidan intersection as Railways is also constructing a RUB near IP depot on the Ring Road.
In the Yamuna Bazar area, a separate road for the non motorised traffic is being constructed to cater the traffic from Chandni Chowk and other areas. This road will cross the main road through an underpass.
The New Ring Road bypass would also reduce the quantum of traffic on the ITO-Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg intersection as traffic coming from Trans Yamuna Area will move below ITO flyover to move towards Indian Institute of Public administration to utilise new RR bypass and move further towards ISBT Kashmere Gate.
The new Ring Road bypass would prove to be useful during Commonwealth Games as it will pass near IP Stadium, a venue of Games.
She also visited Chhatrasal stadium where re-development work is on in full swing.
The stadium is being developed as athletics training venues for Commonwealth Games-2010 with an estimated cost of Rs 99 crore. The re-development work will be completed by December 2009.
The newly developed stadium will have 400 meter x8 lanes synthetic track, grass field for football, synthetic turf for various sports, 8000 sitting capacity for spectators, 500 VIPs sitting capacity, air-conditioned athletic block, basement parking, roof over spectators gallery, LED display board, flood lighting of play areas, fire fighting and fire alarm systems etc.
The Chief Minister has decided to closely monitor Commonwealth Games projects and may go for an inspection even on unscheduled visits.
