Heavy showers lash Delhi; waterlogging reported at AIIMS, several areas

Heavy rain lashed several parts of the national capital on Tuesday morning, leading to severe waterlogging at the AIIMS flyover loop and affecting traffic movement in several parts of the city.
Rain was reported in several areas, including AIIMS, Bhikaji Cama Place, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, RK Puram Sector 1 and Shanti Path, as the city remained heavily clouded following intense showers on Monday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), moderate rain is expected at many places across Delhi on Tuesday, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely over the national capital.
At Safdarjung, the temperature was recorded at 26.6 degrees Celsius at 5:30 am, with 100 per cent humidity. The station recorded 3 mm of rainfall at 8:30 am, according to the IMD.
Meanwhile, Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport issued a passenger advisory at 7:20 am, warning of inclement weather conditions in the vicinity of the airport. The airport said flight operations were currently normal and advised passengers to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight information.
"As per the Indian Meteorological Department's forecast, inclement weather conditions are expected in the vicinity of Delhi Airport. However, flight operations at Delhi Airport are currently normal. Our on-ground teams are working diligently with all stakeholders to ensure your journey remains hassle-free. For the latest flight information, passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines," the passenger advisory read.
The rain comes a day after heavy showers triggered waterlogging and traffic disruptions across Delhi-NCR, with several flights also being diverted.
In neighbouring Gurugram, heavy rainfall on Monday led to waterlogging and traffic snarls in several areas, including Subhash Chowk. In view of the weather conditions, the Gurugram District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) advised corporate offices, government and private schools, and other institutions to guide employees and staff to work from home on Tuesday.
The administration said the advisory was aimed at reducing traffic congestion and facilitating repair and maintenance work on roads and drains by civic agencies.
Gurugram Deputy Commissioner also urged residents to cooperate with the advisory and plan their travel accordingly.
