Delhi sees coldest day of season, more cold ahead

New Delhi, Dec 21 : Delhi experienced the coldest day of the season yet Saturday, with mercury down three notches below the average at 21 degrees Celsius. Weather officials have forecast more cold ahead.

Continuing dense fog led to many trains being delayed or cancelled but arrival and departures of flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport, where visibility dropped to less than 600 meters Saturday morning, was not affected.

"Thirty two trains were delayed where as 27 were rescheduled and four passenger trains were cancelled due to the poor visibility caused by the dense fog," said a Northern Railways spokesman.

"The Northern Railway has also announced cancellation of 53 trains between Dec 21 and Dec 30 due to dense fog and the declining visibility," said spokesman A.S. Negi.

Saturday's minimum temperature was 12.5 degree Celsius, three notches above the season's average

Though the sky was partly clear in the morning hours but the city was wrapped up in fog once again in the afternoon and in the evening.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sunday will see heavy fog again in the morning and evening and the day will be comparatively cool.

The minimum and the maximum temperature is likely to hover around at 11 degree and 18 degree Celsius respectively, Met official said.

"Foggy conditions will continue in Delhi for the next few days," the official added.
