Promoting holistic fitness and mindfulness, the Naval Component of the Andaman & Nicobar Command conducted a yoga capsule for retiring Agniveers at Sri Vijaya Puram, said an official on Sunday.

In a message on X, the AN Command wrote, "The structured programme focused on enhancing physical fitness, mental well-being and mindfulness, equipping Agniveers with the tools for a healthy, balanced and confident transition to civilian life."

The Command said the eight-week capsule was organised in coordination with the Ayush Wing, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and Andaman & Nicobar State Ayush Society under the National Ayush Mission (NAM).

Earlier, as part of operational readiness and capability enhancement, Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command, visited remote locations across the Andaman archipelago, including Landfall Island, East Island and INS Kohassa.

During the visit, he assessed operational readiness, reviewed capability enhancement initiatives and evaluated logistical sustenance measures.

The AN Command wrote on X, "During the visit, he interacted with #ANC personnel deployed in challenging conditions and commended their exemplary professionalism, unwavering commitment and steadfast dedication to duty."

The Command recently organised a conclave to discuss the evolving strategic significance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the strategic importance of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

In a message on X, the AN Command wrote, "A Strategic Leaders' Conclave was organised at #ANC as part of its Silver Jubilee celebrations, bringing together former CINCANs and senior military leadership to reflect on 25 years of the Command's journey, defining milestones and enduring lessons."

"Deliberations focused on the evolving strategic significance of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the strategic importance of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), emerging maritime challenges and the future role of #ANC in advancing India's maritime interests and strategic priorities in the Indo-Pacific," it wrote.

"The conclave also deliberated on the Command's vision, future planning and priorities for the next 25 years. The conclave reaffirmed #ANC's vision as a strategic frontier and maritime arc of power," it wrote on X.

What the report makes clear: The Command is running a structured eight-week yoga programme to help retiring Agniveers transition to civilian life.

Still open: The report does not yet say how many Agniveers took part or how the programme's outcomes will be assessed.

Another way to look at it: Such transition support matters most if similar wellness programmes are extended to Agniveers at other commands too.

Should wellness programmes for retiring Agniveers be expanded to all commands across India?
