Water level in the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir across Cauvery river is receding fast and as a precautionary measure, outflow of water through the canals for irrigation has been stopped since yesterday.
According to officials sources, about 4,000 cusecs of water, being released to the canals, has been stopped to maintain minimum level required for domestic consumption while the inflow is reduced to 1,143 cusecs.
Sufficient volumes of water has been released for irrigation through the canals since August 16 to December 31 and now, the government had directed to stop the outflow, according to KRS Medium Scale Irrigation Planning Superintending Engineer Shankare Gowda.
