Zenit St. Petersburg attacking midfielder Danny has been banned for three Russian Premier League football matches, the club said Thursday.
The 29-year-old Portuguese player was sent off in added time in Zenit's 1-1 home draw with Anzhi Makhachkala for insulting referee Maxim Layushkin in Russian.
"According to unofficial data, Danny got a 3-match ban," Zenit wrote on Twitter.
"We are waiting for confirmation on the Russian Football Union website."
If banned for three games, Danny would miss the Russian champions' visits to Rubin Kazan and Terek Grozny plus a home match against Mordovia Saransk, all scheduled for March.
The playmaker returned to the pitch last month after a nine-month layoff with a torn cruciate ligament and was named Zenit captain in late November.
He moved to Russia in 2005 with Dynamo Moscow before moving to Zenit in 2008 for then-national record amount of 30 million euros.
