Envoy Dinesh Trivedi meets B'desh FM, state minister

The newly appointed High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, paid courtesy calls on the Foreign Minister and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs on Wednesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meetings took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of constructive engagement that both sides seek to maintain in their bilateral ties.
During the discussions, the Foreign Minister congratulated High Commissioner Trivedi on his appointment and assured him of the Ministry's full cooperation throughout his tenure in Dhaka. He expressed confidence that the High Commissioner's diplomatic experience would contribute positively to further strengthening India-Bangladesh relations.

The warm reception is encouraging. But I wish our media would focus more on substantive issues like water sharing, border management, and trade disputes rather than just courtesy calls. These photo-ops don't solve real problems.

"Mutual respect and equality" - that's what all bilateral relations should be based on. No one wants a big brother attitude. Bangladesh has every right to put its national interest first, just like we do. Mature diplomacy at work here.
These initial meetings set the tone for the entire tenure. I just hope it's not all talk and no action. We need concrete outcomes on trade facilitation, connectivity projects, and people-to-people contacts. The rhetoric is nice but results matter more.
