25 women are in fray for Saurashtra's 48 seats

As many as 25 women are in the fray for Saurashtra's 48 seats in next month's Gujarat Assembly elections.

Of the 25 women, seven have fielded themselves as independents.

Interesting by in 31 seats out of 48 of the region, not a single woman is in contesting.

The BJP has fielded eight women while the Congress has only two, Bahujan Samaj Party and Janata Dal (U) has fielded three women each. Lok Jansakti Party fielded two women candidates and seven women fielded themselves as independents.

In all, 514 candidates for 48 seats are in the fray after the withdrawal of the papers, yesterday.

In previous Gujarat Assembly elections, Morbi, Wankaner, Dhoraji, Manawadar and Keshod women had filed their nominations papers, but this time, in these constituencies not a single woman was in the fray.

Even in Botad where four women had been fielded in previous assembly elections, this time no women was in the fray.
