Shivangi Joshi reveals facing insecurities over facial acne all her life: Don't want to show my face
Mumbai, August 5
Television star Shivangi Joshi opened up about battling facial acne and skin issues throughout her life, on the reality show, Lock Upp.
The actress stated that she understands how deeply appearance-related comments can affect a person.
During a conversation with Ram Kapoor on Yogesh, Shivangi addressed the controversy surrounding fellow contestant Shreya Kalra, who had earlier repeatedly called Shivangi as "Annabelle", a reference to the haunted doll from the horror film franchise.
Responding to the comment, Shivangi said Shreya calling her Annabelle so many times had hurt her.
She went on to explain why she had empathised with Shreya when the latter developed an allergy on her face.
"When Shreya got an allergy on her face, I tried my best to make her feel comfortable. Somebody who knows how insecure you are about your face... I have had this acne and all these skin problems all my life. I know how insecure I am about all these things," Shivangi said.
The actress added that she could relate to anyone struggling with facial insecurities.
"So, I can understand if someone is going through something and feels like, 'I don't want to show my face.' Then people make fun of my face and my make-up. It's so hurtful," she said.
Shivangi further also took offence to remarks allegedly made about television daily soaps by Shreya and Shilpa, saying she did not understand why working in daily soaps was looked down upon.
"Even when they were talking about Harshad and daily soap acting, I was like, 'Is doing daily soaps a bad thing?' You are also from daily soaps," she said, before adding that Shreya had herself admitted to giving many auditions but in vain.
For the uninitiated, Shivangi Joshi who, a few years ago, was a part of the iconic show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, faced trolling online for visible acne marks on her face during many episodes.

I have huge respect for Shivangi for being this honest. In our country, actors are expected to be perfect all the time, especially actresses. But beauty is not just about the skin - it's about the confidence and talent you have. Also, that comment about daily soaps being looked down upon really hit home. The people who mock TV actors forget that they work 12-hour days and still bring smiles to millions of households. Shreya should have been more empathetic given she had her own face allergy issue.
Honestly, it breaks my heart to see how much pressure our celebrities face. But I also want to say that Shivangi handled this whole situation with so much grace. Instead of lashing out at Shreya, she understood the pain behind the comment. That's what makes her a true star. And can we talk about how she made Shreya feel comfortable when she had the allergy? That's maturity right there. We need more such conversations about body positivity in India. 💯
The amount of disrespect TV actors face is unreal. People literally compare them to film actors and say they can't act. But make no mistake, doing daily soaps is tough! They have to deliver dialogues, express emotions, and look good on screen for hours every single day. It's unfortunate that someone like Shreya, who herself comes from TV, would mock the industry. Also, about the acne issue - I think it's high time we normalize skin problems. They're as common as anything.
As someone who has worked in the entertainment industry abroad, I can say that this issue of body shaming is universal, but in India, it's more intense, especially for female actors. I appreciate Shivangi opening up about her insecurities. It takes a lot of courage to admit these things on national television. The fact that she showed empathy towards Shreya despite being mocked is commendable. This is a conversation we need to have more openly. Good going
