Delhi cop shot dead by car-borne assailant /
A 49-year-old Delhi Police head constable was shot dead early Monday by an unidentified car-borne man at a vehicle-checking picket here, police said.
Head constable Ramkishan was shot dead around 2.10 a.m. while he was inspecting a car in west Delhi's Nangloi. He died on way to hospital.
The attacker fled from the spot, police said.
"Ramkishan had stopped a car as part of a routine vehicle checking drive. After checking the passengers in the rear seat when he approached the driver's seat, a personin the passenger's seat beside the driver shot him," a police official said.
Ramkishan, who joined the force in 1982, was on duty with three colleagues. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
The policeman lived in Nangloi's Vinay Vihar area.
Around 19 Delhi Police personnel on duty were killed or died in an unnatural manner between Sep 2011 and Aug 31, according to police records.
