Woman sent to prison for visa fraud
A local court today sentenced 30 months imprisonment and with a fine of Rs 10,000 to a 48-year-old woman in connection with a visa-fraud case filed by five youths. Kannur JFCM-2 Magistrate T P Anil awarded the imprisonment to Geetharani, Sreerangan House of Mavelikara.
The incident occurred in 2006. Geetharani offered salesman visa in a super market of her husband Krishnakumar at Kuwait to
five youths of Kannur and collected Rs 80,000 each and passport
by showing fake visa photostat copies.
The youths came to know the job opportunities through news paper advertisement offering Rs 15,000 as salary plus free food and accommodation.
The five youths Anoop Narayanan of Kanhiranghad,Sreejith of
Maniyoor, Ramakrishnan of Pariyaram, V T Anoop of Mele Chowa and
Unnikrishnan of Payyanoor.
They filed a complaint on August 27, 2006 before the Kannur city police station that they were cheated by Geetharani. Later Kozhikode CBCID investigated the case and arrested here.
