AIADMK calls Stalin's statehood promise 'a bluff'
AIADMK Pondy Unit Secretary A Anbazhagan (MLA) today ridiculed DMK leader M K Stalin for the latter's election promise of getting statehood for Puducherry if the DMK candidate is elected.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Anbazhagan alleged that this promise is to 'cheat' the people here, and asked why the DMK failed to get statehood when it was part of the Centre for 14-years.
He said statehood has been a burning issue here for the past 30 years and when AIADMK had participated in the Union Government, Ms Jayalalitha had spoken to Prime Minister Vajpayee and made arrangements to grant special category state status for Puducherry .
However, it was dropped after the change of ministry at the centre.Subsequently when the Congress and DMK were part of the Central Government, no action was taken to get statehood for Puducherry, he charged.
He claimed the National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu was not there in Puducherry and the alliance parties had gone in different directions here. N R Congress President and Chief Minister N Rangasamy was humiliated by his alliance partners now, he charged, adding the reason was Rangasamy had formed his own governemnt after fighting the assembly elections in alliance with the AIADMK.
He also reminded Mr Stalin that it was during the DMK rule of R V Janakiraman that land and house grabbing of the French nationals had occured here and the complaint went up to the French Parliament.
