Sir Elton John sends David Gilmour's jailed son box of books
Charlie Gilmour was sentenced to 16 months in jail earlier this month after he was caught on camera rampaging across London with fellow students last December, protesting against a huge hike in university tuition fees.
The 21-year-old, who was seen swinging from a flag pole on the Cenotaph war memorial and urging fellow protesters to "storm Parliament", admitted to a charge of violent disorder and was ordered to serve time.
According to the Daily Mail, John, 64, and his partner David Furnish had a number of classic works, including books by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy and historian Niall Ferguson, delivered to his family home.
John has never met Charlie, but he is close friends with the latter's adoptive father David and his mother, author Polly Samson.
"A box of books was sent to Polly and David's house. I think they were incredibly touched," Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.
"The books ranged from serious history books to novels and they had obviously put a lot of effort into choosing a wide-ranging selection that he (Charlie) would like," the source added. (ANI -Posted on / )
