Jade Goody's 8-hr cancer surgery 'goes off successfully'
London, Sept 13 : Reality TV star Jade Goody has undergone an eight-hour surgery for
cervical cancer.
The 27-year-old star was operated upon at London's Royal Marsden hospital on Sep 12
after she was diagnosed with the disease last month.
She came to know about the disease when she was appearing on India's version of Big
Brother, and had to abruptly fly out of Mumbai to return home for treatment.
The mum of two has talked about having her womb removed on Living With Jade Goody,
filmed before the surgery.
"It's the equivalent of a heart transplant so it's a very, very serious operation. All
my life I've been told I'm a pig and now I'm being cut open like one. It's a dangerous
operation," The Sun quoted her, as saying.
Goody's spokesperson Max Clifford said: "The operation went well. She's got the best
people looking after her. She's had surgery, a radical hysterectomy and the operation
lasted eight hours."
He added: "I spoke to her last night and she was as comfortable as possible and
trying to be positive but was obviously feeling very scared as any 27-year-old in that
situation would."
Goody will now start with a gruelling nine-week course of chemotherapy and
radiotherapy.
