Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 1: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) was opposed to the setting up of Special Economic Zones, its General Secretary and senior CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said today.
''We are against setting up of more SEZs in Kerala,'' he told reporters here Stating that industries had developed in 1950s without SEZs, he said there was no need for establising SEZs for the development of industries.
When pointed out that the state unit of the party was supporting for creation of SEZs, he replied ''we are not part of it and we are against SEZs.'' AITUC was taking steps to form trade unions in IT sector, he said adding that it had already started the process in some IT units and the response was huge from the employees.
