Chennai, Dec 1 : In a minor re-allocation of portfolios, Tamil Nadu Transport Minister K N Nehru has been given the additional charge of Agriculture Department held by Veerapandi S Arumugam, who has been hospitalised.
Governor Surjit Singh Barnala reallocated the portfolio on the advice of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, as it would take some time for Mr Arumugam to resume his normal duties, a Raj Bhavan communique said.
It said the subjects, Agriculture, Agriculture Engineering, Agro-Service Cooperatives, Horticulture, Sugarcane Cess, Sugarcane Development and Wasteland Development, hitherto held by the Agriculture Minister were temporarily allocated to the Transport Minister in addition to the subjects held by him.
Mr Arumugam was admitted to a private hospital on November 28 night due to breathing problems. He was admitted to the ICU and his condition was being monitored by a panel of doctors.
