'Mars Man' spacewalks on DFW ramp with Miss India-World
New Delhi, Oct 14: The electrifying sound of a rocket launch followed by heavy techno music, models in futuristic dresses, a green Mars Man and Miss India-World Parvathy Omanakuttan - designer duo Lecoanet-Hemant's show at the Delhi Fashion Week Tuesday evening aimed at exhibiting the wonders of outer space.
Though the showstopper of the evening was Parvathy, the "Mars Man", who had his body smeared with green paint and donned bright red eye shadow, was a hit without a doubt.
"The man in green was just a joke. But it appealed to the audience and everyone liked the idea," Hemant said after the show.
The models sported short, pencil straight and ultra modern hairstyles to match the sci-fi theme along with knee-length bubble skirts, fluorescent mini dresses, stapled (not sewn) garments, wide legged flowing trousers in chiffon, long evening dresses and skirts mostly in nylon.
They even donned stylish Catwoman eyewear and strutted around in shoes that emanated light.
Lecoanet-Hemant's collection was their take on fashion for the extra terrestrial.
"We were surfing the Internet for the past few months and we realized that people talk a lot about aliens and Star Wars. Even during our childhood, we used to be fascinated with the outer world. So we thought this is what we want to do for our spring/summer collection," explained Hemant.
The idea was to be different.
"Everyone is inspired by current happenings or the traditional era; we chose to be different by opting for what is not happening now," Hemant said.
They used a lot of plastic, snake skin design prints and futuristic material for the collection with nylons and shiny material. The designers described these are their USPs.
Their colour palette was simple with a heavy use of black, brown, white, metallic cream and pink.
As the show ended, ace designer Tarun Tahiliani stood up, cheered and appreciated the designer duo's unique collection, as did fashion diva Ritu Kumar, who took note of their "clean cuts and lovely French drapes".
"I was expecting just this from them. Lovely show!" Kumar told IANS.
