Apiculture: a new avenue to self-employement
Bareilly, Nov 8 : In a rapid population increasing country, jobs are not easily available for everyone, however self-employement methods are very useful in improving this picture. Apiculture is one such multi-dimensional self-employement generating avenue.
In Uttar Pradesh, apiculture has been introduced for landless and unemployed youths.
Official sources said here today that farmers should opt apiculture as a serious business. They said crops yields can be increased by using apiculture through pollination.
''Indian Council of Agricultural Research has also emphasised the neccessity of apiculture and special proposals have been made in the current five year plan for it,'' they said.
They added that apiculture is very beneficial for unemployed, laboures, landless farmers and even women and can be opted full time or part time. No special skills are needed nor big amount. One can starts this business with some wooden boxes.
Throwing light on the advantages of apiculture, sources said pollination is must in the process of fruit development in various crops and the role of thrips are very important in the process.
Among all thrips, 80 per cent pollination takes place by honey-bee.
They said apiculture benefits from two sides. It increases the production of crops through pollination and also generates other sources of income like honey, wax and royal jelly.
Honey is a qualitative product for human health. It contains the main energy sources glucose with other minerals and vitamins and liked in whole world.
