IGI Airport all set to work efficiently in upcoming fog season

New Delhi, Nov 7 : Several proactive measures have been taken at the IGI Airport here with the arrival of foggy weather in the Capital, to minimise inconvenience to passengers and ensure continuity of operations.

''The measures, undertaken by the Delhi International Airport Pvt Limited (DIAL), are being implemented on the city side, inside the passenger terminals as well as on the airside,'' a DIAL spokesperson told UNI today.

He informed that IGIA was the only airport in India to feature CAT IIIB Instrument Landing System which allowed compatible aircraft and trained pilots to land even when the Runway Visual Range (RVR) was up to 50 m.

The airport has two parallel runways with such system.

''Fifty-five parking bays, including 36 at the domestic apron, have been provided with CAT III compatible lighting systems.

Additions carried out over the recent past have provided additional number of taxi routings to ease aircraft movement and prioritise the movement of CAT III-enabled aircraft,'' the spokesperson said.

He added that a new car park has been inaugurated at the domestic terminal which augmented the airport's capacity to cater to additional vehicles.

''Roads have been re-surfaced on the city side and the approach road to the International Terminal is being widened,'' he said.

Additional customer service staff has also been deployed inside and outside the terminals to assist the passengers throughout the winter season. ''The IGI Airport Call Centre is being augmented with additional staff to provide information to passengers. Live flight status is also available on the airport's website,'' he said.

He further added that Extensive Flight Information Displays have also been installed to keep the passengers updated on flight status.

''Special booklets with information on fog and do's and don'ts for passengers and airline numbers are also being circulated.

Booklets with special operating instructions for vehicle drivers on the airside are also being issued,'' he said.

The airport authorities claimed that it was the best equipped airport in the country to handle fog conditions.

''DIAL, along with all the stakeholders, is taking all possible measures to minimise the impact of fog and low visibility on flight operations and enhance the passenger experience,'' the spokesperson said.
