Ahmedabad-based dancers to perform at Cairo film festival 09
Ahmedabad, Nov 7 : Ahmedabad-based award winning dancers Maulik Shah and Ishira Parikh are all set to steal the show at the opening ceremony of the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival 2009 with their imaginative performances on November 10.
The artists, with their troupe ''Anart'', will present two performances. The first -- Splendor, a dazzling display of rhythmic patterns and enthralling spins, the pace of which makes the grandeur of Kathak dance come alive and the second -- Khoj, a uniquely choreographed, spellbinding technique which uses mirrors to reflect the dancers' moves.
Ishira and Maulik, recognised as virtuoso Kathak dancers and choreographers, have received the prestigious Gaurav Puraskar from Gujarat government, apart from several other honours.
''Anart'' was formed to nurture and preserve the tradition of classical Indian dance by supporting young professional dancers. The team aspires to make Kathak relevant to modern day India, while at the same time maintaining its original aesthetic and expressive form.
Bollywood is expected to be represented at the festival by eminent film directors Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Madhur Bhandarkar, Jai Tank, Krishna Seshadri, Kabir Khan, and actors Sridevi, Irrfan Khan and Celina Jaitley.
