Reports on violence must be handled with care: Bhandare

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5 : Orissa Governor MC Bhandare today asked the newspapers to be careful while reporting on violence so that the society would not be adversely affected.

Inaugurating the new edition of the 'Orissa Express', a language daily at the Raj Bhawan here, Mr Bhandare said there should be clear cut difference between news and views and everything should be projected without tampering the truth and facts, leaving it to the readers to draw conclusion.

The Governor said there has been concern that the media has often been influencing the people with their constructed reality instead of actual reality. This did not foster any social growth and instead contributed in narrowing down the people's perception.

Mr Bhandare said the value of a newspaper largely depended on its unbiased character, truthfulness and belief in the ethics of the noble profession.

He stressed that the positive power of the media be focussed on and channelled for the true needs of the people and the development of the society as a whole.

Mr Bhandare congratulated the editor and executive editor of the newspaper for giving a new look to 'Orison Express', which was earlier a periodical and later published as a midday daily and weekly simultaneously.

Orissa Express editor Umapad Bose said the newspaper would take care of the problems of the people of the state, highlight every aspect of the life of the people and the issues of state without being biased.
